Born in the Amazon jungle, he grew up in Perú and Brazil and later lived in his beloved Caribbean, carnival-like city of beautiful mansions, Cartagena, Colombia, where he studied theater and music, and almost became a navy officer. He worked there in advertising and sales, at Encyclopedia Britannica, and in pharmaceutical sales along with medical detailing for Winthrop Pharmaceuticals.

While in the U.S. he has been a stage and commercial actor and also owned a retail store in Soho, which specialized in statuary and classical architectural reproductions for the home.
